CANADA REACHES THE PODIUM AT THE 2026 IWWF WORLD CABLESKI CHAMPIONSHIPS

Canada came home from the 2026 IWWF World Cableski Championships with plenty to celebrate, including two individual medals and a third-place Senior 1 team finish.

Held September 10-13 in the Netherlands, the Championships brought together 137 competitors from 19 countries. Canada was represented by Nellie Allard, Marie-Hélène Lanthier, Laurence Ouellette, Mike Lemyre and Patrice Limoges.

What made the week even more unique was the team’s limited experience with cableski. With no cable water ski facilities currently available in Canada, four of the five Canadian skiers arrived having never competed on cable before. Lanthier was the only member of the group with previous Cableski Worlds experience.

After several days of practice and plenty of learning along the way, the Canadians found their footing.

Nellie Allard highlighted the Open results with a bronze medal in Women’s Jump. She sat second following the preliminary round before finishing third in the final to earn a spot on the podium.

Marie-Hélène Lanthier added another medal for Canada, taking silver in Senior 1 Women Tricks. She also advanced to the slalom final and finished fourth in overall.

The Senior 1 group went on to earn bronze in Team Overall, an impressive result for a team adapting to cableski throughout the week.

Patrice Limoges made the finals in both tricks and jump, including a nine-metre improvement between his first and third jumps during the preliminary round. Mike Lemyre also advanced to the tricks final, while Laurence Ouellette competed across all three events.

The Canadian skiers received plenty of support throughout the week from the international cableski community, including coaching and advice as they adjusted to the different techniques required on cable.

For a Canadian team with very little opportunity to train in the discipline before arriving, the week became about much more than results. It was an opportunity to try something new, represent Canada in a different part of the sport and become part of a welcoming international cableski community.

Lanthier also contributed on the officials side of the event, serving as an Assistant Chief Judge while competing.

Canada leaves the 2026 World Cableski Championships with two individual medals, a Senior 1 team bronze and a lot more cableski experience than when the week began.
