Record Number of Canadian Athletes Attending the Masters

18 Athletes to Represent Canada at the 2022 Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament.

For the first time in Canadian water ski history, 18 skiers will be representing Canada at the 62nd Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament. There will be 9 athletes competing in the Junior Masters and 9 competing in the Open division. This is the highest number of athletes in history to represent Canada at the US Masters. The event will take place at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA on May 27-29, 2022.

The Juniors will compete in prelims and finals on May 27 in slalom, trick, jump, and overall. The Open competitors will compete in slalom, trick, and jump with prelims on May 28 and finals on May 29.

“I’m extremely excited for the US Masters and Junior Masters. Never before have we had this many Canadians competing at this prestigious event. It has been great to see these athletes’ hard work come to fruition with an invite to the Masters,” Steve Bush, National Team Head Coach.

The Masters is known around the world as being one of the most prestigious watersports events, with the origin beginning in 1959. The event will host the best water skiers in the world, an invitation to compete at the Masters alone is considered an honour.

2021 REGIONAL AND NATIONAL EVENTS SURVEY

WSWC is continually monitoring the situation with Covid 19 in Canada to determine if we will move forward with hosting the 2021 Water Ski National Championships. The decision will be based on the realities of government and health authority regulations, recommendations, and the ability of participants from across Canada to attend the event.

Our main priority is to host a safe, fun, and accessible event with competitors from across Canada.
We are trying to gauge the intentions of the members of the Water Ski community regarding attendance at the 2021 Water Ski National Championships and Regional Championships events.

NEW – IWWF COMPETITIVE LICENCE

ATTENTION ALL ATHLETES

NEW – IWWF COMPETITIVE LICENCE

Based on a decision made at the 2019 IWWF Congress in Malaysia, all athletes wishing to compete in IWWF Sanctioned Ranking List (RL) / Record Capability (RC) competitions both nationally and internationally in 2021, must hold an active IWWF Competitive Licence (does not include Adaptive water ski).

*Please note this does not replace the requirement that you must also be an active member of WSWC if you are participating in RL/RC event in Canada.

WHY AN IWWF LICENCE?
-During the 2019 IWWF Congress held in Malaysia, it was decided to launch an IWWF Licence to help finance/reduce costs for organizers to host future IWWF World Titled events in particular the IWWF World Open Waterski Championships which includes the hosting of the IWWF Congress. The International Hall of Fame ceremonies, held at the respective IWWF World Championships of each sport discipline, also needs to be financed.
-This would result in there being more interested parties wishing to bid and host for this event so the IWWF can select event venues with the best conditions so athletes can perform to the best of their abilities.
– The IWWF Licence, for a modest fee, will help improve the quality of their services to Athletes and National Federations
– The IWWF Executive Board is counting on the support of all National Federations and Sports Division Councils to achieve this goal because it is in the best interest of our Athletes and Sport.

WILL THE IWWF LICENCE BE MANDATORY FOR ALL ATHLETES PARTICIPATING IN RL/RC COMPETITION?
-YES, it will concern ALL Athletes participating in a RL/RC competition (and not only the Athletes who want to have their names listed on the Ranking List). This is not a Licence for those who want to be on the Ranking List but a Licence for those who want to PARTICIPATE in a RL/RC competition from 2021 onwards.

PRICE
1. $25.00 USD for a Yearly Unlimited Licence
2. $7.00 USD for a Single Competition Licence
*Please note that you can also buy in bulk for your family and/or club/school
