CANADIAN PAN AM CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUNDUP: PODIUM SWEEPS, HISTORIC FIRSTS AND PLENTY OF GOLD

Four Canadian water ski teams competed in the 2020 IWWF Pan American Water Ski Championships on November 4-7, at Boca Laguna in Chapala, Mexico. The Canadian team earned a total of 31 individual medals and 4 team medals.

Members of the Open Canadian Water Ski Team were:
Jamie Calhoun (ON), Taryn Grant (MB), Conley Pinette (BC), Paige Rini (ON), Neilly Ross (ON) and Chantal Singer (ON).

In the Open Men’s division, Conley Pinette took home gold in both Jump (63.6m / 209ft) and Overall (2911.91pts). Jamie Calhoun won the bronze medal in Slalom (2@58km/10.25m)
In the Open Women’s division, Canada dominated the podium with two sweeps in the Slalom and Trick events. In an all-Canadian slalom final, Taryn Grant earned the gold medal (4.50@55km/11.25m), Paige Rini won the silver (2@55km/11.25m) and Chantal Singer took home the bronze (2@55km/11.25m) while Neilly Ross placed 4th with a score of 1@55km/11.25m. In the Trick event, Neilly Ross earned the gold medal (9410pts), Paige Rini took home a silver medal (8550pts) and Chantal Singer won the bronze (8080pts). Taryn Grant also took home the silver medal in the Jump event (51,1m / 168ft) and Paige Rini won gold in the Open Women’s Overall event.

“Incredible results for Team Canada at the 2020 Pan Am Championships! All their hard work and dedication has paid off! This is the first time in my career as the Canadian National Team Coach that we have had two podium sweeps” said National team coach, Steve Bush. 

The Canadian Open Water Ski Team earned the Overall Team gold medal, scoring 8279.95 points. U.S won the silver (6981.94 points) and Chile earned the bronze (5622.91 points)

Members of the U21 Canadian Water Ski Team were:
Bradley Gibbons (AB), Dominique Grondin-Allard (QC), Rebecca Ramsay (ON) and Paige Rini (ON)

Paige Rini earned the Overall gold medal (2908.52pts) in the U21 Women’s division. She also took home the gold medal in Trick (6554pts), silver in Slalom (4@55km/12.00m) and the bronze in Jump (45.8m / 150ft). Dominique Grondin-Allard took home gold in Jump (48.7m / 160ft) and bronze in Overall (1891.10). Bradley Gibbons took home silver in U21 Men’s Slalom (6@58/km12.00m).

The Canadian U21 Water Ski Team earned the Overall Team gold medal (6554.98), Chile won silver (5743.84 points) and the U.S took home bronze with 4073.81 points

Members of the Canadian U17 Water Ski Team were:
Nellie Allard (QC), Jacob Chambers (BC), Olivia Chute (NS), Evan Kraus (AB), Lucas Pinette (BC) and Charlie Ross (ON).

Olivia Chute won a gold medal in Girls’ Trick and a new personal best score of 7020 points. Nellie Allard won silver in U17 Girls’ Jump (36.6m / 120ft) and silver in Overall (2365.37pts). In Boys’ Slalom, Evan Kraus won silver (3,00@58km/11.25km) and Charlie Ross won bronze (1,50@58km/11.25m). Lucas Pinette won silver in Boys’ Jump and Jacob Chambers placed third in Trick (5780pts) and third Overall (2067.67pts).

The Canadian U17 Water Ski Team earned the Overall Team bronze medal (7521.58pts). The U.S won gold (7907.21pts) and Chile won silver (7876.99pts).

Members of the Canadian U14 Water Ski Team were:
Carly Bonham (AB), Louis Cuillert (QC), Jaret Goulah (BC), Kate Pinnsoneault (BC), Megan Pelky (AB) and Hannah Stopnicki (QC)

Megan Pelkey earned the gold medal in Girls’ Slalom (2@52km/12.00m), a bronze in Jump (25.9m / 85ft) and gold Overall (2788.83pts). Hannah Stopnicki earned the gold medal in Girls’ Trick (5510pts) and Kate Pinnsoneault brought home the gold in Girls’ Jump (31.1m / 102ft).

The Canadian U14 Team earned the Overall Team gold (7233.02pts) in front of the U.S. (7009.02pts) and Colombia (5777.07pts).

SLALOM

In the U21 division, Dominique Allard (QC), Bradley Gibbons (AB) and Paige Rini (ON) all secured their spots in the finals Saturday.

Chantal Singer (ON), Taryn Grant (MB), Paige Rini (ON) and Neilly Ross (ON) all competed in the Open Women’s Slalom division and made it to the finals Saturday #CanadianFinals

Ontario’s own Jaime Calhoun is currently seeded second going into the Open Mens Slalom Finals this Saturday

TRICK

Olivia Chute (NS) skied two incredible passes in the U17 Girl’s Trick division, securing her spot in the finals on Sunday with a score of 6400.

Rebecca Ramsay (U21) and Paige Rini (U21 & Open), Chantal Singer (Open) and Neilly Ross (Open) all secured their spots in the Trick Finals this Sunday as well as Conley Pinette in the Open Men’s Trick division.

JUMP

Dominique Grondin-Allard (U21), Taryn Grant (Open Womens), Conley Pinette (Open Mens) Rebecca Ramsay (21) and Paige Rini (U21), all jumped their way into the finals this Sunday.

IWWF PAN AM CHAMPIONSHIPS BEGINS THURSDAY

Four Canadian Water Ski Teams will compete in the 2021 Pan American Water Ski Championships, Thursday through Sunday, at Boca Laguna in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico.

CANADIAN WATER SKI TEAM SELECTED FOR 2020 PAN AM CHAMPIONSHIPS

OTTAWA, ON – Water Ski Canada is pleased to announce its team for the 2020 IWWF Pan American Water Ski Championships. Canada will send a group of 21 skiers to the Pan American Championships taking place in Boca Laguna in Chapala, Jalisco Mexico, on November 4-7.

“I am excited for this Team as we have strong representation in all events” said National Team Head Coach Steve Bush.

The team will be led by National Team Head Coach Steve Bush and supported by Junior team coach Cole Grant, Dr. Joe Quigg (medical) and Darren Wharrie (athletic therapist).
