INCREDIBLE RESULTS FOR TEAM CANADA AT THE 2021 SENIOR PAN AM WATER SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS IN MEXICO

What a tournament for Team Canada! The Canadian team won a combined total of 13 medals, including 4 gold, at the 2021 IWWF Pan American Senior Water Ski Championships, Oct. 28-31, at Boca Laguna in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico.

Members of the Canadian Senior Team were: Jean Cloutier (QC), Rae-Lee Colcleugh (AB), Mike Collombine (AB), Bruce Dodd (AB), Wendy Durigon (ON), Jonathon Hayward (BC), Richard Lutfy (QC), Todd Schafer (AB), Bob Wink (ON) and Teresa Wiwchar (ON). The team was led by National Team Coach, Steve Bush and Pierre Plouffe.

 

+ 35 Division 

Todd Schafer earned a silver medal in men’s slalom (0,50/55/11.25)

 

 

+ 45 Division

The Canadian 45+ team won the overall team silver medal, scoring 3,765.38 points 

Jonathon Hayward earned gold medals in men’s jump (24m –79ft) overall (2740.74 points) and the bronze in men’s trick (1750). Bob Wink won silver in men’s slalom (3,00/55/12.00). Rae-Lee Colcleugh  won bronze in women’s slalom (5,00/52/14.25). Also, a huge congrats to Wendy Durigon for placing 4th in women’s slalom. 

 

  

+ 55 Divison

The Canadian 55+ team won the overall team silver medal, scoring 5,440.59 points

Bruce Dodd swept gold medals in men’s slalom (3,00/55/11.25) and men’s trick (2920 points). Mike Collombin won silver in men’s slalom (2,50/55/11.25). Teresa Wiwchar earned a bronze medal in women’s slalom (1,00/52/14.25) and Jean Cloutier earned a silver medal in men’s jump (34.4m -113ft). Incredible performances by Richard Lutfy in all three events!

 

+65 Division

Pierre Plouffe did not complete due to an injury.

CARTER LUCAS & REBECCA RAMSAY RECEIVE THE 2021 MANOO SCHOLARSHIP

Congratulations to Carter Lucas and Rebecca Ramsay, recipients of the 2021 Manoo and Jean Gurjar Scholarship.  The scholarship is given out each year to provide financial support to the skiing and educational pursuits of one male and one female Canadian water skier who best represent  the ideals established in honour of Manoo Gurjar.  

The Manoo Scholarship is awarded to athletes who:

-Love and passion for the sport of water skiing;
-Sociability and friendliness within the water ski community 
-Good sportsmanship;
-Gives back to the sport in his or her own unique way;
-Demonstrates a commitment to education;
-Demonstrates a commitment to training and becoming better;
-Demonstrates potential and drive to compete

2021 MANOO & JEAN GURJAR SCHOLARSHIP – APPLY TODAY

Manoo Gurjar is a longtime and beloved water skier. In 2013, he continued to compete in the Men 9 category (75+), including at national championships where he consistently takes home hardware in the slalom event. Manoo’s smiling presence, friendliness, sharing of volunteer time, stories, photographs and food, have combined to make him a favourite personality at events.

GOAL OF THE LEGACY FUND: The purpose of the Legacy Fund is to provide annual financial support to the skiing and educational pursuits of one male and one female Canadian water skier annually who best represents the ideals established in honour of Manoo Gurjar. A Legacy Fund allocation of $1,000 will be allocated annually to each recipient.

CRITERIA: The skiers selected shall best exemplify the qualities and wishes of Manoo and Jean Gurjar in their regard for the sport and education.
