THE 2020 CANADIAN VIRTUAL SLALOM CHAMPIONSHIPS

EVENT OVERVIEW/ WEBSITE INFORMATION

This year, Water Ski Canada and World Water Skiers is proud to bring you the first-ever Virtual Slalom Championships, a Class F Recreational free event. Due to COVID-19, Water Ski Canada have had to significantly alter our summer tournament schedule. Water Ski Canada’s foremost concern is to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants at our tournaments. We have all missed competing together in one location; we know you do, too. To celebrate the end of the summer, we have teamed with World Water Skiers to help launch their new virtual platform, Water Ski Games.

The 2020 Canadian Virtual Slalom Championships is an opportunity for you to compete from your home training grounds, with the Canadian water ski community – for fun! An incredible opportunity to virtually bring together our athletes.

Water Ski Games is a revolutionary approach to water ski tournaments! With the pressure to find a way to keep people competing through COVID-19 times, World Water Skiers has pulled out all the stops to come up with a great way to do this. No judges and no official drivers required. Skiers can simply record a video of their performance and upload it on the new Water Ski Games platform to participate in a Nation-wide event.

VIDEO RECORDING: How to take the video

  • Although not mandatory we advise skiers to record the video in 1080p 30 fps.
  • The video must be one continuous take (with no edits) of only the last three passes. You can record the whole set and then trim the start and end. Make sure not to leave the smartphone face down between one pass and the next. A black screen might be interpreted as a video cut.

    1. Before skiing, write down on a piece of paper the previously generated numeric code.
    2. Before each pass, you have to show the piece of paper with the code on camera.
    3. The camera should show the rope on the pylon after every deep water start and before entering the slalom course.
    4. At the end of every pass, right after the exit gates (or one full buoy after the fall of the skier), the camera should show the times on the Zero Off screen.
    5. At least once during the course of the submitted video, zoom in the face of the skier. Make sure you do it during the last 3 passes (which are the only ones you will upload).
