OTTAWA (July 19, 2019) – Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada (WSWC) and the Canadian Olympic Committee are pleased to announce the six athletes selected to compete in the water ski and wakeboard events at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. The competitions will take place from July 27 to 30 in Lima, Peru.

Team Canada will be led by Canadian national water ski coach Steve Bush (North Vancouver, B.C.) and national wakeboard team coach, Michael Lieffers (Humboldt, Sask.) and supported by Matt Rini (Ont.) and Jaret Llewellyn (Innisfail, Alta.)

“Congratulations to our 2019 Pan Am Games team of water ski and wakeboard athletes,” said Jasmine Northcott, CEO, Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada. “As a world leader, Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada is incredibly proud of our athletes and look forward to cheering them on. The upcoming Games are an excellent opportunity to showcase our athletes and inspire the next generation of water skiers and wakeboarders. We look forward to an exciting Games and defending our position as a world leader.”

Canada has enjoyed great success at past Pan Am Games water ski and wakeboard competitions, topping the podium at Mar del Plata 1995 with six medals, five medals at both Winnipeg 1999 and Santo Domingo 2003 and nine medals at Rio 2007, Guadalajara 2011 and TORONTO 2015.

Lima 2019 will be the first Pan American Games to include a women’s wakeboarding event.

Water ski and wakeboard are expected to be two of the most exciting sports, bringing high-flying action to the Lima 2019 Pan Am Games. The water ski and wakeboard competition will feature eight water ski events: women’s slalom, women’s tricks, women’s jump, women’s overall, men’s slalom, men’s tricks, men’s jump, men’s overall and two wakeboard events: men’s and women’s wakeboard.
